Superb English Delft Blue-Dash Charger with Important Provenance
Probably Bristol or Lambeth (London), ca. late 17th to early 18th century. Delftware pottery charger painted in the “oak-leaf” pattern, with a central leaf within a roundel and four more bold oak leaves radiating outward alternating with four stylized floral sprigs. The rim has a pattern of blue dashes, originally believed to emulate rope. Large size 13 5/8 inches diameter. Terrific unrestored condition with minor wear and chips typical with Delft of this age. Private New England collection. Important provenance includes noted English Ceramics expert Jonathan Horne, former Chairman of the British Antique Dealers Association and Past Master of the Guild of Arts Scholars, Dealers and Collectors.
