AMERICAN ORIGINALS
Miniature Firkin

Likely Hingham, Massachusetts, ca. mid to 3rd quarter, 19th century.

Cooper-made from what appears to be maple and pine, with copper tacks and iron pegs. Slender fingers join a tapered staved form. Retaining an early varnish surface, rich patina, and painted roses (under the varnish). Swing handle. Pencil inscription underneath ‘ca’, possibly for C&A Wilder, Higham, Massachusetts, woodenware maker.

Superb structural condition. Just 2 3/8 inches tall. From a long time Southern collection.
