Early Country
Miniature Blanket Chest

New England, ca. late 18th century to 1800.
Very dry crackly paint on pine, the paint depending upon lighting ranges from dark charcoal to black with a hint of brown. Cut nail joinery, with cut-out side. Hand-plane molded rim to the top, held by its original snipe hinges. The front panel shows a barely-there vestige of a painted white flower. A cool feature is an inner carved till, not normally seen in a miniature. Untouched, several inconsequential hairlines.
Just 11 ½ inches wide at the molding (10 5/8 at the case) x 9 ¼ tall x 6 deep. From a private Northeast collection.
