Rare Candle Sconce
with Central Flower

Northeast, ca. 18th to early 19thc.

Tinned sheet iron retaining a top-shelf complex surface. The D-shape well holds a cylindrical candle cup (and period candle stub) the cup clenched underneath, supporting a flaring backplate with trifid hood crimped along the edges.

The backplate is fitted with a 3-dimensional applied sunflower which I have not seen previously, the sunflower delightful when reflecting light from a candle.

Excellent condition.  About 15 ½ inches tall. May be hung or can rest on a flat surface. From a private NH collection; Hollis Brodrick.
