SWEET PAINTED
“TAPER” BOX

Northeast, ca. 1820-1840.
Original paint on pine, the paint when applied was a “robin’s egg blue” yet now with oxidation and patina presents toward green in most lighting. A most unusual design in that the box intentionally was made to subtly taper along its length, and also across, so a bit trapezoid rather than rectangular. Between the small form and patinated surface this little box has much character!
Just 5 1/8 inches long. Perhaps held tapers (small candlesticks for sealing envelopes), or a spice???
