Early Brass Trammel with Serpent Traveler

Probably England, 18th century. Entirely from brass with copper pins, with the distinction of having the head of a serpent terminating the traveler. Brass trammels in this period were used to hang lighting, either lantern or chandelier, to raise and lower to cast illumination as needed. The trammel closed is about 17 inches long, fully extended about 27 ½. A fine example.
